I wanted to explore the question of how deep the trance of a music could be and how it can mess with our minds. It can trap us, torture us and change us without us even realizing it.
The challenge was to convey the main characters confused point of view about the power of the music and how it can twist your mind. On one hand he is most intrigued by the possibilities of a trance inducing music but on the other hand, a part of his mind finds it unethical to introduce such powers to the world.
The story demanded two key locations for the screenplay to work. The first location was a sound studio where the main character first creates the trance inducing music track. The second location was the deserted location which looks like somebody left in the middle of the construction. Luckily, both these locations existed in my office premises where I used to work.
The edit did not provide much of a challenge as the sequencing you see in the final video was exactly the way it was written in the final draft of the screenplay.
If there was one issue which I was facing is that when the main character's friend enters the room and the two begin a conversion, the initial shots of the friend's dialogue were too grainy and dark to be used in the film.
So I decided to reuse some of the main character's exploration shot from the beginning of the film and overlap them with what the friend was saying to the main character.
Other than this, the editing flowed by quite smoothly without any bumps in the way.
The story and the narrative could have been so much better in order to make the point which I set out to make. But I only realized after the full completion of the film and submission on the internet that this film is perhaps not the best way to provoke some interesting thoughts in the audience's mind.
But nevertheless, the initial dialogue exchange between the two characters is bound to induce some thought as to what the main purpose could have been to create the very first music track in the world and how the modern artists have molded it in modern times and perhaps made into something much more manipulative.
If you shot some footage and need someone to edit the video or if you have an idea for a short film and you need someone to write the screenplay, I would love to jump on baord and collaborate with you. Have a look at my other works to see my style and experience which I build over the years.
Let me know in the comments how you think I could have made this film much better and much more engaging?
I would really appreciate some constructive criticism in order to become a much better filmmaker and a much better storyteller.
